Assam: Rhino Poaching Cases Down To Zero In 2022, Says SDGP

GUWAHATI : GP Singh, the Special DGP of Assam, has shared similar views as CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The DGP on the 2nd of January revealed data demonstrating the decline in rhino poaching cases in Assam in 2022.

The data showed that not a single rhino was killed last year. The DGP further stated that, continuous efforts by the concerned authorities to eradicate this issue has yielded good outcomes.

The last case was registered on 28th of December, 2021. The incident took place in Hilkund, Kohra which comes under the Golaghat district.

However, the efforts won't end here. Department will carry on its encounters against poachers in the state. GP Singh mentioned this on his most recent tweet.

On 1st of January, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared this news while talking to media in Assam's Koinadhara district. He asserted 2022 as a landmark year and stated that after 25 years this is the first time that not a single rhino got killed by poachers. Zero case was registered against the matter , may it be from Kaziranga, Manas or Pobitora wildlife sanctuary.

There has been a decline in such cases, however, one or two remote cases has been registered. The CM congratulated on this and was immensely happy regarding the efforts made by Assam police department in eliminating and restricting illegal rhino poaching in the state.

It is worth mentioning that, there has been reportedly a significant decline in accident cases in the state as well, especially on 31st December and 1st of January.

Approximately 50 deaths due to road accidents were registered in the earlier years. However, the number has come down to 15 in 2022. The CM has complete faith on the administration along with the support of public, who will bring down the number to zero with its frequent efforts and measures.

Nonetheless, few death reports came from Assam's Cachar district, Golaghat, Dhemaji and Tinsukia on the last day of 2022.
