SILCHAR: Assam Rifles has set its footprints not only as a force to fight the enemies of the nation but also as an engine of welfare activities for the well being of all, living in far and near corners of Barak Valley, Dima Hasao district and Manipur. From organising online interactions with teachers, distribution of necessary aids to the target people, it has nabbed an NSCN cadre during the last fortnight. The message is quite explicit, 'get necessary help and guidance, but shun the path of gun-culture' or face the music.

Schools are yet to reopen due to pandemic situation. Kadamtala Battalion of Assam Rifles reached out to 21 teachers of various institutions through video-conferencing and inspired them to dedicate themselves to the better education of students and imbibe in them the human qualities for creating a society different and idealistic.

With UNESCO's declared theme 'Teachers at the heart of education recovery' in mind, Assam Rifles laid stress on yet important role for them to play constructive role in helping people in general fight the COVID-19 menace. All sorts of assistance and incentive were also assured for both teachers and the taught. This step of Assam Rifles drew applause from the academic circles.

Apart from that, the friendly force distributed dry ration among the 45 needy families of Chillei and Jenamghat villages of Dima Hasao district with further assurance in future. 35 poor families of Barabekra and Gaukhal of Jiribam district were also extended the benefit of ration.

Besides, Assam Rifles held an online pre recruitment counselling for vacancies, when they occur for youths of the hill villages. The lecture was designed to guide and help the youths to prepare them for counselling. Particular emphasis was laid on motivating the youths for dissemination of information to larger number. Such free counselling through power point presentation did create the desired impact. Every precaution was taken in arranging the set of programmes.

Assam Rifles in the midst of its humanitarian works is also all watchful against any misadventure by underground ultras for safety and security of the people around. In its dragnet fell one NSCN (K-Nikki) cadre while on a prowl to target soft targets in Cachar. He was apprehended with a 9 mm revolver and other ammunitions. He has been identified as Thuimei Panei hailing from Tamenlong district. The ultra with seized arms was handed over to Jirighat police located on the border of Manipur.
