GUWAHATI : Recently, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) had made a number of seizures of ganja or marijuana from different station under its jurisdiction. A large quantity of the banned substance was seized in the last few days.  

Approximately, 100 kgs of Ganja were recovered from the Northeast Frontier Railway by the RPF on 4th and 5th November. The ganja was reportedly found in unidentified bags during regular checks at Lumding and Jalpaiguri road railway stations.

On 4th November, the Lumding RPF team directed a check on train number 15909, Avadh Assam Express, which was returning from Dibrugarh at Lumding railway station. They found 5 unidentified bags which had 12 packets of ganja in it. According to the reports, the ganja was worth around Rs 8 lakhs, and weighted around 80 kgs. The seized ganja was later on handed over to the GRP of Lumding for further actions.

Subsequently, on the same day, 4th November, the Jalpaiguri RPF team ordered a check at the Jalpaiguri railway station. They found around 11 kgs of ganja which was worth Rs 1.10 lakhs during the raid. In this case, the seized items were delivered to the GRP of New Maynaguri for further actions.

On 5th November, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) team conducted a similar drive in train number 22504, New Tinsukia- SMVB Bengaluru Express at Lumding railway station. Here, the team recovered 23 sacks of ganja weighing around 19 kgs, worth Rs 1.90 lakhs, as per reports.These items too, were sent for further action to the GRP of Lumding.

All of these seizures were stated in a press release by Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR.

Recently, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NFR seized smuggled items worth more than Rs 7.54 lakhs. This incident took place on the 30th of August and 2nd of September, 2022.

The items that were recovered, mainly consisted of ganja and liquors that were found in unknown bags during regular checks at different stations and trains.

Also on 1st September 2022, the RPF had again ordered a check in train number 13174, (Kanchanjunga Express) where 30  kgs of ganja worth Rs. 3 lakhs was recovered from unknown bags.
