Assam: 'Sabhagriha' Of Basisthashram Devalaya To Be Reconstructed, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Lays Foundation Stone

Guwahati: On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the 'sabhagriha' of the historic Basisthashram Devalaya in an effort to strengthen its infrastructure in Guwahati city. 

The responsibility for the reconstruction of the meeting hall has been taken up by Anupam Sarma, a noted social worker, and Sanjive Narain, who is the CMD of a local private TV channel.

In addition, a park with a small Pond was inaugurated by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The park was newly developed at Basistha Bhootnath Crematorium Kali Mandir by the CDM of a private TV channel Sanjive Narain.

In his address to the crowd that had gathered in the venue, the Chief Minister acknowledged the temples and Devalayas as significant in regard to religion and history. He called them the embodiment of our cultural identity and asserted the importance of protecting, preserving and strengthening their infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the historic and mythological significance of the Basisthashram Devalaya. The Assam CM also revealed its plan to carry out multiple tourist and pilgrim friendly initiatives at the Devalaya. The deputy commissioner of Kamrup Metro Biswajit Pegu was also asked by the chief minister to come up with a master plan that involves Tourism and Public Works Department.

The initiatives of Anupam Sarman and Sanjive Narain to boost the infrastructure of the Devalaya were also well appreciated by the Chief Minister.
