MORIGAON: In a traumatic incident that has shaken the residents of Sonarigaon in Assam's Morigaon town, burglars entered the Sensoku Namghar, stealing holy religious objects from its 'Monikut' and sacred altar. The break-in occurred during the night and was aimed at religious objects, triggering widespread concern among the residents.

According to reports, the burglars targeted several homes in the area, breaking into nine residences and stealing valuables from private prayer rooms. Among the items taken were the sacred Salagram idol, brass and copper utensils, and a variety of other religious artifacts. Furthermore, sacred texts, including the ‘Gunamala Puthi’, were also stolen from the Namghar.

This is one case of a rising trend in the area, with a significant surge in such crimes reported in the region over the last month. Close to fifty Monikuts have allegedly been burglarized in recent weeks, raising concerns among the community and increasing worries about the security of religious centers.

CCTV footage of the most recent theft indicates that one person might be behind the crime. The authorities are going through the footage as part of an investigation into this string of thefts. The local police have asked residents to be on the lookout and report anything suspicious as they work hard to nab the perpetrators of these crimes and bring back a sense of security to the community.
