Assam: Sahitya Akademi organizes symposium at Gyanpeeth Degree College

JAMUGURIHAT: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with the Nepali department of Gyanpeeth Degree College, Nikashi, BTR, organized a one-day symposium on ‘Modern Nepali Poetry and Prose and Nari Chetana’ on July 6 at Gyanpeeth Degree College, stated a press release. The inaugural session was held with Badri Guragain, a retired teacher in the chair. Dayananda Bhanadari, Founder President of the governing body of Gyanpeeth Degree College, lit the ceremonial lamp and eminent dramatist Prithivi Bilash Bhattarai forwarded a welcome address. Durga Khatiwoda, member of the advisory board, delivered the inaugural address while Chandramani Upadhyay, member of the advisory board, forwarded the keynote address. Dr Rabi Chandra Adhikari, Assistant Professor of Gyanpeeth Degree College, offered the vote of thanks.

The first technical session was held with Rajkumar Chetry in the chair wherein seminar papers on trends of modern Nepali poetry were presented by Rudra Baral, Dr Tilak Sarmah, and Milan Subba. The second technical session on contemporary Nepali prose was held with Dr Sanjib Upadhyay in the chair where Dr Gyatri Newar and Dhakaram Kafle presented their papers. The third technical session on Nari Chetana was held with Gita Dahal in the chair.

It was followed by reading of short stories by Jayantikala Devi and poems by Geeta Sharma. The programme was attended by the dignitaries of the area and students of the college, besides others.
