Kokhrajhar: The people of the Aflagaon Village has alleged that the Public Distribution System (PDS) rice provided to them has been mixed with 'plastic rice'. As per the allegations made by Aflagaon Village Council Development Committee (VCDC), the Ramfalbil Samabai Samity has been distributing 'plastic rice' to the families belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL).

The 'plastic rice' has been mixed with regular rice that has been provided every month to the families belonging to the Below Poverty Line at a rate of Rs.1 per kg. The families have reportedly stopped the consumption of plastic mixed rice.

Ramfalbil Samabai Samity has been called out by BPL families residing in Aflagaon, Belguri, Podmabil and South Aflagaon region for supplying plastic-type rice mixed with regular rice and claimed that consuming such rice would ruin their health.

The BPL families also informed that this month is the only time they have received such rice and it has never happened earlier.

The district food and civil supplies department provide the Samity with rice that has to be shared among BPL cardholders.

As per the descriptions made by the families, the plastic rice is said to be bigger in size than the regular ones. When grounded, the rice turns into particles and becomes steamy with a dirty scent when cooked.

The BPL families have demanded a fair probe in this case.
