Assam Science Society inaugurates medicinal plant park at Biswanath

Biswanath Chariali: A medicinal plant park was inaugurated on Sunday in the campus of the office of the Biswanath Chariali branch of Assam Science Society.

The park that grows the endangered species of medicinal plants found in Assam was formally inaugurated by nature lover and retired Associate Professor of Bihpuria College, Dr. Prabin Saikia.

The medicinal plant park has been jointly set up by Akash Science and Environment Centre, a local NGO, and the family of educationist and mathematician Tirtheswar Sharma. Inaugurating the park, Dr. Saikia highlighted the importance of medicinal plants and called upon the public to grow such plants in their respective homes.

He said that medicinal plants had been used in the country since the ages of rishi-munis. He demonstrated a good number of endangered varieties in front of the audience. The programme was presided over by Akash’s president and eminent science writer Khiradhar Baruah while it was conducted by secretary Ripunjay Bordoloi.
