TEZPUR: The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, was held under the chairmanship of Dr Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education (DEE), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat. At the onset of the programme, Dr Angana Sarmah, In-Charge Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Sonitpur, welcomed the esteemed guests as well as officers from various line departments and some progressive farmers of the district. In his speech, DEE, AAU, addressed the participants and elaborated the objective of the programme. District Commissioner, Sonitpur Ankur Jyoti Bharali, in his address, advised KVK, Sonitpur to work in a convergence mode with other line departments such as NABARD for formulation of strategies for betterment of the farming community of the district. The action plan for the financial year 2025-26, action taken report of the last year, and progress report of activities of KVK, Sonitpur for the current year were reviewed in the meeting. Dr G Kadirvel, Director, ATARI, Zone VI, urged KVK scientists to work in convergence with the district agriculture department. Dr Prabal Saikia, Chief Scientist, Zonal Research Station, North Lakhimpur, AAU, Chief Scientist, AICRP-Dryland, AAU, district veterinary officer, Sonitpur, district fisheries officer, Sonitpur, Director, NERFMTTI, Biswanath, DDM, NABARD, other officials from line department, and members from FPCs, NGOs, progressive farmers of the district, and entrepreneurs were present and shared their views.
A book named 'Stories of Agripreneurs (Sonitpur and Biswanath district)' and seven numbers of extension bulletins were inaugurated in the meeting. Six progressive farmers of the district, who achieved success in various sectors of agriculture such as mushroom cultivation, paddy seed production, flower cultivation, organic farming, and vermicompost production, were felicitated in the programme. The programme concluded with remarks from DEE, AAU Dr Manoranjan Deka where he emphasized on adopting location specific technologies for the district, convergence with allied departments and entrepreneurship development in the district. He also suggested taking up activities related to agro forestry as well as carbon financing.
