
GUWAHATI: In a deeply disturbing incident, seven youths have been apprehended in connection with an alleged gang rape in Boragaon, Kamrup Metropolitan district. The crime, which was filmed by the accused, went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
According to the reports, the incident took place at a Durga temple located in the Nijarapar area of Boragaon, with the video surfacing online and immediately grabbing attention. Garchuk Police, under Inspector Mayurjit Gogoi and Sub-Inspector Kajal Dutta, immediately launched an investigation into the matter after learning about the video at 2:30 AM from News Live journalist Dharmendra Kalita.
Till date, six arrests have been made - identified as Kuldeep Nath, 23 years; Bijoy Rabha, 22; Pinku Das, 18; Gagan Das, 21; Saurav Boro, 20; and Mrinal Rabha, 19. But three of the four members are absconding and are under search.
The authorities are trying to identify the victim, but her name is withheld because the circumstances of the rape are so sensitive. The police are closely watching over the video evidence and will ensure that the general case is fully investigated to bring all perpetrators to book.
This shocking case has brought the growing concerns over such criminal activities to the front, and law enforcement is determined to take strict actions against the perpetrators, assuring people that the remaining suspects would be caught soon.
