GOALPARA: In a major crackdown against vehicle theft, Goalpara Police achieved a significant breakthrough in preventing vehicle theft by arresting ten bike thieves in two separate operations. They also recovered eight stolen motorcycles from them. These arrests are an important step in reducing organized vehicle theft in the district.

In the first operation, a team from Goalpara Police Station, led by the Inspector-in-Charge, carried out a successful raid and arrested four bike thieves. They also recovered five stolen motorcycles, which are suspected to have been taken from different places.

In another similar incident, a team from Matia Police Station, led by the OC, arrested six veteran bike thieves who were allegedly involved in many vehicle thefts. The police also found three stolen motorcycles with them.

Further investigations are underway to trace other stolen vehicles and identify potential buyers or accomplices involved in the racket.

Meanwhile, earlier last week, a dramatic incident had taken place in Guwahati, Assam. During the operation at the Jorabat area in the early hours of the morning, the police shot a car thief who had attempted to flee after attacking them. The accused, Divyajyoti Saikia, had been shot while he attempted to flee by attacking the police.

The Basistha police were on their way with the notorious thief for an operation when the incident occurred. The suspect was said to have launched an attack on the police on their way to the operation as a desperate measure to run away. In self-defense, the officers had been left with no option but to open fire, hitting the suspect in the leg.
