JORHAT: Amid the ongoing campaigning for the Students' Union Election in JB College on Jorhat, several college students sustained injuries after violence erupted on Friday night.

As per reports the supporters of a student union have been accused of attacking the college students over the 2022 Students' Union Election at JB (Jagannath Barooah) college in Jorhat.

As per reports, the independent candidates alleged that some members of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) entered the JB College Hostel campus at around 03:00 am to put up posters but they started assaulting the students.

It is reported that a group of AASU members consisting of 25 to 30 supporters allegedly assaulted the hostel students with iron rods and sticks after entering the hostel campus early in the morning on Saturday.

The violence among the students broke out over the upcoming union election of JB College to be held soon.

One of the independent candidates informed that following the attack by AASU members, several students sustained injuries and faced mental harassment on Friday later night.

In this regard, a case has been registered against the student union supporters at the Jorhat Sadar Police Station for allegedly assaulting the students. Further details regarding the students are awaited.

Meanwhile, several pictures showing the injury marks on the student's body has been shared on various social media platform raising concern over the incident.

Many are seen condemning such an act by the AASU members ahead of the JB College Students Union Election 2022 and asking the college authority to investigate the matter.

Several organizations coming out in support of the students have been demanding strict and immediate action against the perpetrators.

It may be mentioned that such incidents have become very often ahead of elections in different colleges and universities across the state.
