DHAKUAKHANA: A severed head that was found under the Singia Bridge in Dhakuakhana, Lakhimpur district, sent shock waves in the region. It was found inside a sack entangled in the net of a fisherman and is suspected to be one of the two persons who were murdered—Sunil Gogoi, the contractor of Jal Jeevan Mission, and Jahangir Hussain, who was a laborer from Dhubri district.

The head was recovered near Gogoi’s residence, who had been missing since June 1, 2024. This incident follows the recovery of a charred, headless body in Dhakuakhana's Sapatia area on June 2. Initially, Gogoi’s wife, Puspa, filed an FIR identifying the remains as her husband's. However, subsequent investigations pointed to the possibility that the body belonged to Jahangir Hussain, who was allegedly murdered by Gogoi.

Gogoi was named by authorities as the main suspect in Hussain's murder on June 19. Gogoi had apparently left Assam, taking on a new name and even altering his mobile number, according to August reports.

Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has already received the severed head for forensic analysis in order to identify it. The finding has left the locals in a state of confusion and anxiety as they await further information regarding this horrific case that has cast a shadow over the neighborhood.
