GUWAHATI: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called for nationwide support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Election’ at a major event in Assam, where over 50,000 houses and agricultural equipment were distributed to beneficiaries.

Highlighting inefficiencies caused by frequent elections, Chouhan noted that continuous electoral cycles disrupt governance and development. “Elections seem to happen every day in our country, hampering administrative continuity and progress,” he stated. Chouhan emphasized that simultaneous elections could streamline governance, save financial resources, and allow leaders to focus on public welfare.

Chouhan conducted a virtual ceremony to officially launch 50,000 homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-G. These houses, part of a ₹650 crore initiative, contribute to Assam’s goal of completing 20 lakh rural homes, of which nearly 19 lakh have been delivered under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership. Chouhan also announced an additional 3.88 lakh homes for this fiscal year, with plans for similar numbers next year.

The Union Minister emphasized the growth in eligibility under PMAY-G so that the largest number of families could be covered to enhance housing support to the rural areas. As a complement to providing shelter, Chouhan also distributed agricultural machines to thousands of farmers under NFSM and MOVCD-NER. The items provided included power tillers, threshers, and sprayers, promoting productivity and self-sufficiency.

The event restated the commitment of the government towards rural development as Chouhan appealed to the citizens to support unified elections for better governance.
