Assam: Silchar Comes Second In Terms Of Obtaining Government Jobs, Says CM Sarma

SILCHAR: On November 29, Assam Chief Minister said that after Guwahati, Silchar grabbed the second spot with the most successful candidates in landing a job.

He was responding to claims made by some organisations that candidates from Silchar performed poorly in government exams

After the cabinet meeting, Sarma addressed the media and stated that "several organisations in Barak valley called off a Barak Bandh as a mark of protest against the failure of students in the state government organised exams."

The Chief Minister continued, "This is an insult to the meritorious students of the Barak Valley, as they have declared to the entire world that the Barak Valley does not have meritorious students."

Sarma, however, emphasised that the Silchar center had the highest percentage of students who passed the test after Guwahati, demonstrating the accuracy of the data.

Guwahati came in first place overall in Assam, followed by Silchar, he continued.

The Chief Minister provided statistics, stating that 1000 candidates from the Barak Valley performed outstandingly out of 5000 applicants for a government position that required Class 10 or higher.

Notably, 1000 candidates from the Silchar centre alone were hired for the 5000 open positions.

While there were 10,000 job openings for government jobs that required applicants to be in Class 8 or higher, 2087 Barak Valley residents were among the applicants who passed the exams.

The CM said, "In Assam, we have 35 districts, and Barak Valley has 3 districts. The average pass percentage for grade 4 exams is 20%."

10,000 positions were available for grade 3 exams, and 1547 candidates from Silchar were successful in getting hired.

This, according to the Chief Minister, shows that the Barak Valley has "monopolized" the entire outcome.

Prior to that, on November 6, the Assam state government released the outcomes of the Grade 3 recruitment exams.

The exam, which was held in August 1903 locations across 25 Assam districts, attracted over 8 lakh applicants.
