
GUWAHATI: The Guwahati City Police, along with Kamrup Police, have arrested six individuals after a video of cows being publicly slaughtered during a picnic went viral on social media.
Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed the arrests, adding that authorities are pursuing additional legal action against the accused. The accused have been identified as Sahil Khan (20), Hafizur Islam (19), Rokibul Islam (20), Sahidul Islam (30), Izaz Khan (26), Jahidul islam (24).
DGP GP Singh addressed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Regarding the viral video of cattle slaughter in a public place – six individuals shown in the video have been arrested, and further legal action is being taken by @GuwahatiPol @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam.”
The video, shared by users with handles going by the name of @razz_1065 and @its_me___enjamul, shows the public slaughter, sparking outrage.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has persistently urged the strict implementation of the Act, emphasizing its role in preserving cultural values and promoting communal harmony.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, authorities in Mizoram immediately launched investigations into the circulation of an appalling video showing a young woman being assaulted in public.
The clip, shot by CCTV footage, depicted a young man attacking a woman on a public road, which elicited wide public outrage.
The Mizoram State Commission for Women issued suo moto notices concerning the incident. In the video clip, the culprit was seen to be Lalnunfela, a 22-year-old hailing from the Bethlehem locality of Aizawl.
