DHUBRI: A smuggler with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) amounting to Rs. 95,000 has been arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint operation with Assam Police along the India-Bangladesh international border in Dhubri district of Assam.

Acting on reliable intelligence inputs, personnel of the 66 Battalion, BSF Guwahati Frontier carried out the operation on the intervening night of April 12 and 13.

The officials are of the view that the smuggler was trying to circulate the counterfeit notes within India. The apprehended individual and the confiscated currency were handed over to the local police for further legal action.

“In a major success against trans-border crime, Bordermen of 66 Bn BSF under BSF Guwahati Frontier, in a joint operation with Assam Police, apprehended an Indian smuggler with Fake Indian Currency of denomination Rs 95,000 in Dhubri district, Assam, along the Indo-BD border,” the BSF Guwahati wrote in a post on its official X handle.

The troops of the BSF remain on high alert due to the vulnerabilities associated with the porous border and the persistent threat of smuggling, anti-national activities and trans-border crimes.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, 386 bottles of prohibited cough syrup were seized by the BSF personnel from the 03 Battalion during an attempted smuggling operation from India to Bangladesh in Assam's Dhubri district.
