Assam: Sonari ASI Dies of COVID-19 in Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI: An Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Sonari police station died of COVID-19 at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Friday night.

The deceased identified as Manoranjan Phukan hailed from Shantipur in Demow under the Sivasagar district.

According to reports, Phukan succumbed to the virus while he was undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

Earlier, he was admitted to the District Civil Hospital in Sonari on July 14 after suffering from fever for several days.

The police officer tested positive for the virus and was later referred to AMCH in Dibrugarh for further treatment.

The mortal remains of Manoranjan Phukan were laid to rest in Demow on Saturday.

According to the data published by the state National Health Mission, 421 cured cases of the virus were discharged and 1 death was reported in West Karbi Anglong. The overall Covid-19 tally of Assam now stood at 7,29,322 cases, with the total recoveries touching 7,17,893.
