Sonitpur: In a recent operation, the Police in the Sonitpur district of Assam discovered a huge collection of stores that included weaponry mostly used in a war. 

The Police recovered the said cache, which even included explosives and rifles, from one of Missamari's tea estates under the Sonitpur district of Assam, on Wednesday.

Sources state that the owner of the cache had the belongings buried underneath the Belsiri River's bank. The exact location lies amidst a forest area of the Kamengbari tea estate.

The recovery includes the police seizing a huge amount of pistols, and rifles, which included live ammunition and explosives of various nature.  

An operation led by the Sonitpur Additional Superintendent of Police Madhurima Das facilitated the seizure of the weapons. 

The police is suspecting that a militant outfit probably hid the collection of weapons and explosives as his store place for carrying out illegal activities in the future. 

As of now, the police have not reported any person related to the issue. They are carrying on further investigation of the issue. 

In similar events, the police also seized a huge amount of explosives in a village in Kamrup Rural district. The police discovered gelatin sticks that amounted to 2800 pieces and a total of 1500 electronic detonators in the Rani village of the Kamrup Rural district. They seized the said items from a Bolero pickup vehicle, which they intercepted in the said area. 

The police nabbed 32-year-old Jahrul Islam in relation to the seizure. 

According to sources, the police intercepted Jahrul at a Naka checking when he was travelling from Rani village to Meghalaya with the explosives. 

In the month of August, ahead of Independence Day, the Meghalaya Police also recovered a huge collection of arms, ammunition and explosives from the East Garo Hills district. Similar to the case in Sonitpur, the weapons were discovered in one of the jungles of the Meghalaya district.
