HATSINGIMARI: Tragedy befalls personnel from Assam Police while on duty in the South Salmara Mankachar District. The bodyguard of a senior police official drowned in the Brahmaputra river.

The heartbreaking incident took place when the senior officials of the police in the district were out on an inspection and the victim slipped from the boat he was on and fell directly into the Brahmaputra river. His body was later recovered from the river.

According to local sources, the Superintendent of Police for the South Salmara Police and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were out for inspection of the Bandihana Police post when the incident took place. The bodyguard of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chandra Kumar Kalita named Kaushal Kalita was also along with them in this inspection.

But while commuting on a boat from Fakirganj to Bandihana, the victim Kaushal Kalita slipped into the river at Bauchkata Kacharipara. A rescue operation was launched immediately and an SDRF team was pressed into service. But they were unable to rescue the victim and the dead body was later recovered by the SDRF team. This sad development triggered sadness in the entire region.

Assam witnessed another tragic incident during a picnic in Goreswar, where two lives were lost in a mishap on Sunday. The incident occurred near the renowned Bogamati picnic spot in Goreswar, located in the Baksa district of Assam. Preliminary reports from Goreswar indicated that the accident transpired when the driver of a Maruti Brezza car, transporting the picnic group, lost control of the vehicle's steering wheel, leading to the car plunging into a nearby ditch. The unfortunate location of the mishap was a canal, part of the Sukla Irrigation Project in Goreswar.

As a consequence of the accident, two passengers in the car, identified as Pawan Rabha (45) and Sanjay Rabha (35), both residents of Kulsi gaon under Palasbari Police Station, lost their lives on the spot. The gravity of the situation prompted officials from the Goreswar Police Station and Suagpur Police Outpost to swiftly reach the scene upon receiving information about the incident.
