Assam: SSB seizes timber-laden vehicle in Chirang district

KOKRAJHAR: The 6th Bn. SSB on Sunday seized a timber-laden Mahindra pick-up van from smugglers near Samodwisha under Runikhata Police Station in the Chirang district.

Sources from the SSB said that based on specific information, the joint patrolling party of G-Coy, BOP of Sonapur and Forest Range office, Runikhata on Sunday found a Mahindra pick-up vehicle without number plate loaded with 12 sawn timber logs in a forest area near Samodwisha village.

The patrolling party tried to search the driver in a nearby forest area but were unable to trace him out and thus the vehicle loaded with wooden logs was seized by the patrolling party and handed over to the Forest Range office at Runikhata. The seized items included one pick-up van without plate worth Rs 5,00,000 laden with 12 wooden timber logs worth Rs 3,60,000. The total seizure is Rs 8,60,000.
