MARGHERITA: Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Margherita sub-divisional branch today has taken a strong measure against the Tai Ahom Youth Parishad, Assam (Tai-Ahom) by filing a complaint at the Margherita Police Station. This move came after a few members of TAYPA on Monday allegedly burnt the replica and copy of the Constitution of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at Sonari, Charaideo district, which sparked widespread protests across Assam.

The incident is connected to an earlier event where Chandra Baruah, a member of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha from Gohpur, participated in the Tai-Ahom community religious festival, Me-Dam Me-Phi and the Sangha had taken disciplinary action against Chandra Baruah for his participation.

The Srimanta Sankardev Sangha has condemned the incident and demanded disciplinary action against the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) members who were involved in the burning of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha’s replica and copy of the constitution.

Bhadeswar Chutia, President of Margherita sub divisional branch of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha said that Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, a social reformer, artist, and spiritual guide who made immense contributions towards the development of Assamese culture, established the Neo-Vaishnavite movement, also known as ‘Ekasarana Dharma,’ which has spread across the world but unfortunately Udipta Gogoi and few members of TAYPA burnt the replica and copy of the Constitution of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at Sonari which has hurt the devotees of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. So today, more than hundred members of Margherita sub divisional branch of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha went to the Margherita Police Station to lodge an FIR against Udipta Gogoi and other members of TAYPA, said Chutia. He also added that the organization is pushing for swift action against those responsible.
