GUWAHATI: On June 15, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a two-day workshop on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Assam at AASC, Khanapara.

In response to the current university rating, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that certain universities performed well while others did not, hence the chief minister emphasized that Assam's universities are among the top 100.

Taking on Twitter, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, “I don’t want Assam to be an educational hub just for the North East.

I want our State to become a centre for education for Eastern India and entire Bharat.

For this, we need 50% of our universities to come in the top 100 rank.”

He also said that all institutions should have the same curriculum, academic calendars, and so on, so that students and parents may be assured of a consistent pedagogy and quality education. Universities should begin enrolling UG students on their campuses as well.

Previously, on June 5, 2023, the Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2023.

The programme was organised by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, who took the initiative.

Furthermore, the CM stated that the Assam government is eager to introduce and implement NEP 2020 in both letter and spirit, as all vice-chancellors are devoted to the cause by incorporating it into the higher education system.

However, certain agenda items have still to be completed, such as enrolling in the entrance examination, which will begin next year.

In response to students' and the Gurdian community's concerns over NEP 2020, the chief minister stated that the four-year degree course still appears foreign since they are unable to understand the difference between the previous pattern and that of current.
