
DHUBRI: In a significant breakthrough, the Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested eight individuals believed to have connections with jihadi groups.
The operation, carried out across Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts, focused on multiple locations, including Jaipur, Khachipara, Bhotgaon, and Bhadiyaguri.
The STF arrested five individuals from Kokrajhar, who are now being transported to Guwahati for further questioning. The arrested individuals have been identified as Hakim Ali Mondal, Habijur Ali, Majnu Sheikh, Amidul Sheikh, Nur Islam, and Mujibur Rahman.
In a separate overnight operation in Dhubri, two more individuals, Enamul Haque and Abdul Karim, were arrested. Haque is from Hatipota, while Karim is a resident of Khudigaon in Bilasipara.
The Assam Police are currently probing the suspects' involvement in jihadi activities and their possible links to broader networks. Additional details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Special Task Force of the Assam police conducted a raid at Balughat under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station in a major crackdown against illegal narcotics trafficking.
Acting on reliable inputs, the STF conducted the raid on the late hours of 7 December and it led to the apprehension of a notorious drug peddler identified as 34-year-old Dipak Brahma, hailing from Chapaguri village in Assam's Bongaigaon district.
