Assam STF Arrests Key Jihadi Operative In Dhubri District Amid Ongoing Crackdown

DHUBRI: In a major success for the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF), another key jihadi operative, Jaheer Ali, was arrested in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, as part of the ongoing "Operation Praghat." Jaheer Ali, son of Baher Ali, is from Khudigaon Pt 2 village in Bilasipara.

This operation is part of the STF’s continued crackdown on fundamentalist and extremist activities. As part of the investigation under STF Assam Police Case No. 21/2024, a total of 12 individuals with links to clandestine activities, including Bangladeshi nationals, have already been arrested. The operation has revealed connections to the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a group based in Bangladesh, led by Jasimuddin Rahmani.

STF officials said the people arrested were part of a plan by Md Farhan Israk, a close helper of Rahmani. They sent a Bangladeshi man, Md Sad Radi (also known as Shab Sheikh), to India to spread extreme ideas to people with similar beliefs.

The STF, led by Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, did the operation and caught the suspects. They took away many weapons, ammo, explosives, and other items. They also found key documents and mobile phones with the suspects.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a Special Task Force (STF) team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak, successfully conducted an operation, that resulted in the interception of a vehicle linked to the notorious Touthing narcotics family from Churachandpur, Manipur.

The operation was based on credible intelligence about the transportation of illegal drugs from Mizoram to local peddlers in the Hajo and Goreswar areas.
