GUWAHATI: As per the directions of the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has carried out massive operations against Rohingyas in the state leading to the arrest of several such people and the recovery of several fake documents from them.

In an all-out operation conducted by the Special Task Force, a total of five teams headed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police level officials were deployed in several locations in the districts bordering the state of Tripura. This operation was carried out in connection to STF Case Number 01/2023 U/S 120(B)/ 121A/ 153A(1)(b)420/ 468/471 IPC R/W Section 12(1)(a)/12(1A) (a)(b)/12(2) of the Passport Act.

During the operation, multiple men were found to be involved in the illegal business of ferrying Rohingya Muslims into Indian Territory. Fake identity proofs and other travel-related documents were arranged by these touts/ middlemen to show these illegal immigrants as Indian citizens. These incidents are very serious threats to National Security mentioned the Assam Police.

The modus operandi of these Touts involved in the business of bringing such illegal immigrants into India from Bangladesh have ulterior motives as well. They aim to internal disturbance, thereby threatening the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. These middlemen also facilitate the illegal Rohingya immigrants to board Delhi-bound trains from Kumarghat Railway Station in Tripura. They also escorted Rohingyas to board trains to Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru bound trains from Dharmanagar in Kumarghat of Tripura and Badarpur of Assam using fake ID as well as processing fake documents.

A total of 8 such touts were apprehended by the police during this operation. The are Uttam Pal of Dalugaon, Unakoti,Tripura, Kajal Sarkar of Kamalghat, West Tripura, Sagar Sarkar of Kamalghat, West Tripura, Pervez Hussain @ Abdul Hussain, Sepahijela District,Tripura, Md. Shaahadat @ Sahadat SK of Chandpur, who is a Bangladeshi national, Shib Sankar Ghosh @ Boto, Belonia, South Tripura, Kartik Nama of Belonia, South Tripura and Bijoy Barua, Bangladeshi cita from Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Further investigations are on to detect and crack down on the illegal network of these middlemen who are involved in anti-India activities. And the Assam Police has mentioned that further operations will be carried out in other parts of the country as well to find out who are helping these immigrants.
