KHERONI: In a significant move to ensure the safety and dignity of women in workplaces, the Government of Assam has directed all District Commissioners to strictly implement the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
Issued by the Personnel (A) Department, the directive mandates the establishment of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in every department, with each committee to be headed by a senior woman officer, composed of at least 50% women members, and include one external representative from an NGO or relevant organization.
This initiative reflects the state government’s zero-tolerance policy toward workplace harassment and its commitment to promoting gender equity and employee welfare.
In Karbi Anglong district, District Commissioner Nirola Phangchopi has instructed all departments and institutions under her jurisdiction to comply strictly with the guidelines. Departments are required to prominently display anti-harassment rules, conduct awareness programs, and set up effective grievance redressal systems to ensure timely resolution of complaints.
