GUWAHATI: This year the students who had performed well in their Higher Secondary Examination will also receive two-wheelers just like those in the class ten examination. This step is expected to encourage students of the state to study harder and perform even better in the coming time.

As per the statement issued, a total of 29,748 female students who secured first division and a total of 6052 male students, who secured 75% and above in the exam will be eligible for this gift from the state government. The whole project of presenting two-wheelers to the eligible candidates will incur an additional cost of Rs 259 Cr to the state government.

In case the student is unable to make the necessary registration or insurance for these vehicles, assistance will be provided by the higher education department. Financial assistance for these students will be provided for this purpose will be provided via nodal principals.

The monthly remuneration of assistant professors working in provincialized colleges of the state has also been increased. The fixed pay of these government employees has been hiked to Rs. 55,000 per month. This will improve the financial situation of hundreds of people working in this position in the field of higher education.

New guidelines have also been created for the issuance of Caste Certificates to the citizens belonging to the Scheduled Tribes category. These will now be issued online from the office of the concerned deputy commissioner using the recently launched Mission Bhumiputra. Such certificates are necessary to avail benefits in education, employment, and economic sectors.

In the next step towards boosting tourism in the state, the Government of Assam has decided to set up a star-category hotel near the Kaziranga National Park. This project will be handled by the Saraf Hotel Enterprises the parent company of the Hyatt brand in India.

These decisions were taken in the October edition of the monthly meeting of the Assam Cabinet.
