GUWAHATI: Bengaluru Police have arrested 21-year-old Aarav Hanoy, suspected to be behind the tragic death of Maya Gogoi, a 19-year-old young woman and the granddaughter of former Assam Cabinet Minister and Congress leader Indra Gogoi.

Aarav, originally from Thottada in Kannur, Kerala, was apprehended outside Karnataka after an intense manhunt. He worked as a student counsellor at a private institution in Bengaluru.

Maya and Aarav had been in a relationship for six months after meeting on social media. Police believe that unresolved issues between them may have led to this heartbreaking incident.

On November 26, Maya’s body was found in a service apartment in Bengaluru’s Indira Nagar. Alarmed by a foul smell, the apartment staff unlocked her room and found her lying on the bed, with severe injuries to her chest and head. The postmortem report revealed that her life was taken by a deep wound to her chest.

Maya, who grew up in Kailash Nagar, Guwahati, had recently moved to Bengaluru and was living with her sister.

Meanwhile, earlier in this month, a 25-year-old man was arrested in Jharkhand’s Khunti district for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and chopping her body into 50 pieces following a dispute over his marriage to another woman.

The heinous crime, which occurred two weeks ago, came to light when a stray dog discovered human remains in a forested area near Jordag village on November 24.

The accused individual has been identified as Naresh Bhengra while the victim went by the name of Gangi Kumari. They were residents of Jordag village but had been living and working in Tamil Nadu.

As per the police, the couple had been in a live-in relationship for the past few years. Naresh married another woman in Khunti without the victim’s knowledge. He returned to Tamil Nadu and continued staying together with Gangi.

The gruesome incident took place on November 8 when the couple returned to Khunti at Gangi’s insistence. A clash unfolded between the two when she insisted that he take her to the village and demanded the repayment of the money he owed her if he declined.
