Dhubri: A prime suspect in a recent shooting incident was injured after being shot in the leg by police in Dhubri, Assam, on Friday. The suspect, identified as Nur Kalam from Goalpara district, was wanted in connection with a violent attack at the SBI customer service centre in Ranikunj Market, Bilasipara, on November 26. The incident had left three individuals seriously injured and sparked a statewide manhunt.

Police confronted Kalam at Paikanadara Second Block village in Bilasipara, where he had reportedly been concealing weapons. As officers moved in to arrest him, Kalam attempted to escape, leading to a brief but tense encounter. During the pursuit, police opened fire, injuring Kalam in the right leg.

Following the incident, Kalam was immediately provided medical attention. He was initially treated at Bilasipara Adarsha Hospital and later transferred to Dhubri Medical College for further care.

Earlier this month, Ramesh Daimary, a 32-year-old dacoit from Tamulpur district, was injured in a police shootout on Tuesday. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg during the encounter in the Jorabat area while attempting to escape custody.

Dispur Police had initially apprehended Daimary and questioned him about his criminal associates. During interrogation, he disclosed the identity of an accomplice, Faizal Ali, and revealed the location of another gang member in Garo Basti near the 13 Mile area. Acting on this intelligence, the police took him to the site to assist in the arrest. However, Daimary attempted to push the officers and flee, prompting police to fire and injure him.
