Assam: Suspected Peddler Caught With Narcotics

BISWANATH: In an operation carried out by the Biswanath Police, a suspected narcotics peddler was arrested. Along with him, a person addicted to narcotics was also arrested during the operation.

The operation was carried out by the Biswanath Police at the Ambari locality of Biswanath on Monday night and it led to the capture of two miscreants. One was found to be addicted to narcotics substances, while the other was alleged to be a peddler of such contraband. The addict was identified as Azad Bepari, while the peddler was Pankaj Gupta.

Pankaj Gupta was on his way to supply the contraband to Azad Bepari, when the police team caught them both. A team of personnel from the Biswanath Chariali Sadar Police Station took part in this operation under the lead of the officer in charge Shamdan Hazowary. A small amount of narcotics was also recovered from them by the police team during the operation.

The police have also started an interrogation into the matter as the court granted judicial custody of these two miscreants. It can be noted that Biswanath Police had arrested Pankaj Gupta previously on charges of consumption as well as peddling of narcotics. But soon after he was released, he joined the same business and started supplying such contraband to the youth of the region.

Previously, Assam Rifles had seized a large number of contraband drugs worth Rs 1.65 crore and arrested a person in Mizoram's Champhai district, according to an official statement from Assam Rifles on Thursday. "Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 20 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing 237 g worth Rs 1.65 crore in the general area of Zokawthar, Champhai district, yesterday," read a statement from Assam Rifles.
