DOOMDOOMA: Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA), Samdang-Hansara Sub-committee along with its different units launched an agitational programme in front of the office of the Samdang T.E. in support of its various demands of tea labourers on Monday.

Braving inclement weather, thousands of tea workers came out to lodge their protest against the management. They demanded enhancement of wage to Rs 351, to appoint doctors and nurses at tea-garden hospitals, appoint teachers in garden LP schools as per student-teachers ratio, to fill up the vacant posts of tea gardens by appointing educated boys and girls of the tea gardens, to release gratuity and Provident Funds (PF) of tea workers on time and provide umbrella and chappal to workers at appropriate time etc. They submitted a memorandum containing 12 point charter of demands after completion of two hour long agitational programme to the management. Jagat Nayak, President, ATTSA Tinsukia District Committee, who was also present at the agitational site, was highly critical of the behaviour of the management towards the tea workers. Terming it as an arrogant dictatorial behaviour of Hitler, he demanded of the management for immediate fulfilment of these demands of the workers.
