GUWAHATI : An arrest has been made by Dibrugarh police department on charges of illegally transporting beef, under Assam Cattle Prevention Act, 2021.

On the 30th of December, Friday, police apprehended three individuals and recovered smuggled beaf in Assam's Dibrugarh district. The detained has been identified as Imran Ali, Miraz Khan and Younus Khan.

Based on a prior information, a team of police followed a vehicle that was approaching towards Loharpatti area of Dibrugarh town from Chaulkhowa. The police caught the vehicle while delivering three gunny bags of beef to Imran Hussain aka Motlib's residence.

Another bag was delivered to Younus Khan's residence. The cops also seized the vehicle in which the items were being transported along with the driver, identified as Imran Ali aka Papu.

After checking the vehicle, four gunny bags of beef were recovered from inside it. Another man identified as Miraz Khan was also detained in relation with the matter.

Younus Khan was also arrested and one bag was recovered from him. Imran Hussain's residence was raided by the police, where they seized 3 bags of beef. However, he provided the police with a slip after which his arrest got cancelled.

Bitul Chetia, the additional SP of Dibrugarh, stated that, a vehicle with registration number AS-06-AC-5867 was seized during the process which also had a butcher knife in it, including three people. Approximately 423 kg of beef packed in 8 bags were recovered from the accused.

The apprehended ones has been booked under IPC sections 353/34 and section 13 of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021.

Recently, Assam police followed two cattle smugglers from Bangladesh and open fired on them. However, the culprits managed to escape the situation by using canals and cutting border fences.

The incident took place at Baliabasti area which is under the Nilambazar police station. The operation was conducted in the international border to nab the Bangladeshi smugglers based on certain information.
