Assam: Three drivers abducted by gunmen in Cachar

SILCHAR: An unidentified gunmen has spread terror at Joypur stone quarry in Cachar on Saturday morning as they reportedly abducted three drivers at gunpoint. Though no FIR was filed till the evening, sources in the local police hinted that search operation had already begun. Eyewitness reported that the miscreants had vanished in adjacent dense forests along with the three drivers after the abduction. The abducted drivers were engaged in transporting the stones with their vehicles. No official comments from the district police could be ascertained till the evening. However, sources in the police department said, it was not yet clear whether the abduction was a handiwork of any militant outfit from neighbouring Dima Hasao or an act of trade rivalry. Stone quarries, maximum of which are run illegally, were an easy targets for the small time goons. However the incident had created much tension in the area.
