NAHARLAGUN: In a quick rescue effort, three teenage girls from Duliajan in the Dibrugarh district of Assam were safely reunited with their families after a two-day ordeal.

The girls, aged 14-15, had intended to travel to Tinsukia but mistakenly boarded a train that took them to Naharlagun railway station on March 12, approximately 500 kilometers from their home.

Upon discovering the disoriented teenagers, Papu Hills police immediately arranged medical checkups and temporary accommodation at the Oju Shelter Home in Naharlagun while authorities worked to locate their families.

“The girls were frightened but unharmed when we found them,” said a police officer involved in the operation. “Our priority was ensuring their safety and well-being.”

Officials were able to locate the teenagers’ parents, who were anxiously searching for their missing daughters, by working with Duliajan police. The tearful reunion took place at Papu Hills police station on March 14.

The policemen involved were commended by Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo, who said, “This timely intervention demonstrates our commitment to child safety and welfare in the region.”

Authorities advise parents to talk to their children about travel safety, which includes knowing what to do if they are separated from their traveling companions and keeping contact information for emergencies.

The case emphasizes how crucial multi-district police cooperation is when it comes to missing people situations, especially when juveniles are involved.
