Assam: Tinsukia College Students’ Union elections leave trail of litter, trash

TINSUKIA: Though the Tinsukia College Students’ Union election concluded on Saturday without any hitch after three days of extensive campaigning and administrative preparedness, it left a trail of debris and trash that littered not only the college campus and boundary walls but also the road. Whose duty it is anyway to clean the trash that has blanketed the public road- the college authority, contesting candidates, municipality or public?

The residents living near the college opined that the college authority, with the support of the district administration, should enforce strict guidelines to the contesting candidates and their supporters to embark upon clean and decent campaigning while littering in any form would entail them for disqualification and also amount to a punishable offence. A senior college teacher even suggested that the contesting candidates should be given an hour’s time to clean all the banners, posters etc. from college and public places before counting begins and it should be made a mandatory rule.
