TINSUKIA: Residents of Kuhiarbari Baruah Ghat in Assam’s Tinsukia district have once again raised their long-standing demand for a permanent bridge over the Ledo Tirap River.
The region, which falls under the 83 No. Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency, continues to suffer from the absence of a stable crossing.
Locals say the lack of proper infrastructure severely disrupts daily life—especially during the monsoon season when temporary structures become unsafe or unusable. Urging authorities to act swiftly, a resident said, “This issue has been ignored for years. We need a permanent solution, not short-term fixes.”
With repeated appeals to the administration yielding no progress so far, the people of Kuhiarbari Baruah Ghat are calling for urgent government intervention to ensure safe and reliable connectivity for the area.
Meanwhile, hundreds of tea workers from the Lepetkata tea estate in Dibrugarh organized a protest under the aegis of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), demanding improved wages and living conditions on Tuesday.
The workers assembled inside the estate, holding placards and shouting slogans as they demanded a hike in their minimum daily wage from Rs 250 to Rs 500, pointing to the growing cost of living.
In addition to the wage hike, the protesters demanded an increase in the monthly housing rent allowance for non-resident workers, requesting an adjustment from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000.
