Assam to Get 209 Tribal Hostels Under NEP 2020 Anniversary Initiative

Guwahati: As part of the nationwide celebration of five years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Government of Assam has launched a major initiative to build 209 hostels for tribal students under the Dharti Aba Janajatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) scheme.

The central launch event was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. In Assam, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu joined the event from Gogamukh HSS in Dhemaji, where he laid the foundation stone for one such hostel.

The hostels, each with 100 beds, will be constructed across 43 constituencies in 23 districts, covering 542 tribal villages. The project has a total budget outlay of ₹815.10 crore.

The initiative is aimed at improving educational access for tribal students in remote areas.

Minister Pegu thanked the MLAs, ministers, and public representatives for their active participation in the state-wide celebrations and for supporting the government’s commitment to tribal welfare and inclusive education.
