Assam to re-open schools & colleges from November 1, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

The MHA in its revised guidelines said that the reopening of schools and colleges in the country is allowed from October 15 in a graded manner.

While the Centre has permitted to open all the schools and other educational institutes from October 15, Assam Government has decided to keep them closed till October 31.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that all the schools and colleges will reopen from November 1. However, the informal classes from class 9 to 12 are going on maintaining all the COVID-19 protocols.

Under the revised Unlock 5.0 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday, the reopening of schools and colleges in the country is allowed from October 15 in a graded manner and the decision to reopen schools/institutions has to be taken by their respective management after assessing the situation. However, the attendance of the students is not mandatory.

The guidelines announced by the MHA also said that online learning will continue to be the most preferred mode of teaching and shall be encouraged. Students who wish to attend classes will only be allowed with the written consent of parents.

However, the guidelines also mentioned that the Department of Higher Education may take a decision on the opening of the colleges/Higher Education Institutions based after assessing the current situation. Further, institutions for research scholars and postgraduate students from science and technology streams that require laboratory work will be allowed to open according to their convenience.

Meanwhile, students, teachers, and staff of several schools of Assam have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past few days.
