Guwahati: A one-and-a-half-month-old baby is missing after a boat mishap on the Brahmaputra River in Satkata Char, close to the Bongaigaon district's Joghihopa border area. The incident, which happened on Saturday, December 8, raised questions about riverine safety.

About 35–40 persons were on board the doomed motorized passenger boat as it traveled from Usungar Char to Chapar Bazar. Passengers were thrown into the water as the ship suddenly capsized while crossing the river.

Emergency reaction teams hurried to the scene, including river police from the Panchratna River Police Station in the Goalpara district's Majer Alga station. The majority of the passengers—men and women alike—were saved alive. But even after a lot of searching, the baby can't be located.

The boat completely sank, according to authorities, and there was no wreckage visible on the water's surface. Police and local divers are searching the region for the missing toddler as part of ongoing rescue efforts.

Earlier this year, a boat capsized on the Brahmaputra River night due to storms and heavy rain, killing three people, including two children. Approximately 20 individuals were saved from the overturned boat. The event took place while the boat was travelling through Assam's South-Salmara Mankachar district.

According to reports, the boat was transporting women and children from Kali Alga Ghat to Nepur Alga Charanchal. When the boat came into contact with the choppy waters of the Brahmaputra, it overturned.
