GOHPUR: The tragic deaths of two labourers employed by IGGL in Assam’s Gohpur have ignited widespread outrage, following an incident that occurred on February 11. The victims have been identified as Rupam Barua from Lakuwa in Sivasagar and Mehdi Hasan from West Bengal.
The fatal accident occurred in Sympho, near Itanagar, when labourers were hit by a car pipe while moving gas pipes in a vehicle of Ganpati Drilling Company, which functions under IGGL. This incident follows a previous tragedy where another worker had lost his life.
Meanwhile, earlier in Guwahati, three laborers were seriously injured when an old wall collapsed on them while they were working on the city's drainage system near Chabipul Chariali. The workers were digging and dredging for a Public Works Department project when the accident occurred. They were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital immediately, and one of the laborers was said to be in critical condition.
Such incidents repeatedly occur, causing an alarm on the safety of workers involved in these operations. The local communities are urging action to take immediate measures on the safety of the workers engaged in these operations and prevent any further tragedies.
