GUWAHATI: In a devastating incident that occurred on a fateful Sunday night, a forest guard lost his life after a savage encounter with a wild buffalo within the confines of the Manas National Park, nestled in the Bodoland Territorial Area of Assam. This harrowing event transpired in the proximity of the Bhuyapara forest range while the guard and his patrolling team were making their way back home after fulfilling their arduous duties.

The unfortunate victim of this gruesome incident was identified as Robin Basumatary, a dedicated forest guard stationed at the Makhibaha camp in Bhuyapara. This deeply distressing episode didn't spare two others either, as forest guards Hitesh Medhi and Krishna Boro sustained injuries in the buffalo's relentless assault. Both injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the Salbari Model Hospital in Tamulpur.

The forest department has swiftly initiated an inquiry to ascertain the factors that precipitated this horrifying attack. As the investigation unfolds, the authorities are working tirelessly to comprehend the circumstances surrounding the wild buffalo's aggression, seeking to prevent such tragic events in the future.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers that forest guards and wildlife protectors face daily while safeguarding our precious natural heritage. The Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a testament to the rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems found in Assam. However, it is imperative that we acknowledge the risks associated with these environments and work toward ensuring the safety and well-being of those entrusted with their preservation.
