TEZPUR: The Avart Bhavan premises in Tezpur solemnly commemorated the 77th Armed Forces Flag Day. The ceremony honored the sacrifices of the known and unknown soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives during the 1962 Sino-Indian war.

The All Assam Federation of Veteran Associations' Sonitpur district branch, in partnership with the Sonitpur District Sainik Board, organized the event, which Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali inaugurated. Bharali paid floral tributes at the war memorial, established to immortalize the martyrs’ sacrifices.

Retired Lieutenant Colonel A.K. Nandi, the District Sainik Welfare Officer, along with representatives of various ex-servicemen organizations, also joined in offering homage to the war heroes.

The District Sainik Welfare Officer read out messages from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam during the ceremony to commemorate Armed Forces Flag Day.

The Government of Assam had notably constructed the war memorial near the banks of the Brahmaputra in Tezpur, marking the burial site of the remains of both identified and unidentified soldiers from the 1962 war.

Meanwhile, the gallantry, sacrifice, and commitment of the soldiers at Jaswant Garh during the 1962 war with China were celebrated with solemnity as the Nuranang Day at Tawang War Memorial earlier in November.
