
GUWAHATI: In a swift operation near the Erode Railway Junction on Wednesday, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police apprehended two individuals and seized heroin valued at Rs. 35 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the PEW police carried out a raid at the two-wheeler parking area of the railway station. During the operation, officers noticed two men carrying a suspicious bag. Upon inspection, they found 50 grams of heroin, worth Rs. 35 lakh, hidden inside the bag.
The suspects, aged 29 and 30, were identified as residents of Assam. During questioning, they confessed to smuggling the heroin from Assam with the intention of selling it at a higher profit in Erode. The police quickly registered a case and arrested the duo.
This seizure comes after a similar operation on Tuesday evening, when the PEW police confiscated three kilograms of ganja near the Erode Railway Station and arrested a man from Odisha.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, a Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) team from Paltan Bazaar PS arrested a person named Bikash Phukan (25) of Kahilipara. Police caught him with 24 vials of suspected heroin weighing 32 grams at Paltan Bazaar.
Legal action had been initiated against the accused. A West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) team from Bharalumukh PS arrested a person named Rubiya Begum of Pandu. Police seized 12.09 grams of suspected heroin from her possession.
Another team from Pan Bazaar PS under Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) arrested an individual named Sairuddin Ali (20) of Bilasipara. Police seized 18 vials of suspected heroin weighing 23.59 grams from him near No. 2 Rail Gate.
