DIBRUGARH: A two-day seminar on Orality and Bharatiya Darshan (Orality and Indian Philosophy), organized by the Folklore Society of Assam (FSA) in collaboration with the Research & Development Cell and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of DHSK College, began with great enthusiasm and participation.
The event witnessed the active involvement of dignitaries, scholars, researchers, and teaching faculty from various colleges and universities across the states of Northeast.
The seminar commenced with the customary registration and breakfast, followed by an inaugural session held in a packed venue. The session began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the dignitaries. Dr SK Saikia, Principal of DHSK College and Working President of the seminar, extended a warm welcome to the attendees.
The seminar was formally inaugurated by Prof MM Sharma, President of the Folklore Society of Assam, who emphasized the significance of oral traditions and Indian philosophy in preserving cultural heritage.
Chief Guest Dr Bhim Kanta Barua delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the relevance of Indian philosophical traditions in contemporary times.
A key highlight of the inaugural session was the preview and formal release of Janakristi, the peer-reviewed journal of the Folklore Society of Assam. Prof Anil Kumar Boro, Head of the Department of Folklore Research, Gauhati University, provided an insightful introduction to the journal, while the formal inauguration was carried out by Prof KK Deka, the esteemed former Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University and Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University.
Dr Karuna Kanti Kakati, Secretary of the FSA and coordinator of the seminar, expressed gratitude to the participants and collaborators in his vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the inaugural session. The technical sessions for the days began as scheduled, featuring paper presentations, discussions, and deliberations on various aspects of orality and Indian philosophy.
The seminar served as a platform for intellectual exchange and enriched the understanding of India's rich philosophical and oral traditions.
