

HAFLONG: In a sudden fire, at least two dwelling houses belonging to Mainan Hojai and Jaynendra Hojai, father and son of Hojai village about 15 km from Haflong were reduced to ashes at about 11 am on Friday.
Mainan Hojai went to the site of his shifting cultivation (jhum) and his son Jaynendra was in the market and there was none in the houses as the wife of Jayandra also had gone to school to fetch her son. Mainan heard some sound of burning from his cultivation site and rushed to his house but in the meantime, everything was finished. Fire services were informed but could save nothing as they reached lately. In the fire, they lost all the properties along with one auto rickshaw, several quintals of paddy, and all the important documents.
Mainan Hojai said his house was of IAY and was half complete. Nothing could be saved from the fire. Jaynendra Hojai said they have lost all the belongings including all the documents in the fire.
The cause of fire could not be ascertained as there was nobody in the houses and there were no activities in the kitchen. However many suspected that short circuit could be the cause of the fire.
