DIBRUGARH: Two people were severely injured after a leopard attacked them while they were tying their cattle in a shed on Friday night. The incident occurred in the Chandra Nagar area of Kuhiyabari in Dibrugarh. Following the attack, frightened residents took to the streets armed with sticks and machetes, fearing further danger.

Forest personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and assured the locals that efforts were underway to capture the leopard. Measures included setting up traps and using firecrackers to drive the animal away.

The injured individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed. “Leopards are coming out of the forest in search of food. They venture into human habitats and mostly prey on domestic animals. The frequent incidents of leopards entering human settlements have become a serious concern for us,” said a local resident.

“After the attack, people came out with sticks and machetes, intending to kill the leopard. Everyone is frightened, especially for the safety of their children,” he added.
