GUWAHATI : In the ongoing human-elephant conflict, two more deaths were reported in Assam's Charaideo district. The tragic episode took place on 26th of December, Monday.
Two people were attacked and killed by wild elephants in Manjusri tea estate near Sonari. Officials from the forest department revealed that, too many houses were also destroyed by the jumbo attack.
It is not a matter of shock, as it came to light that, the herd of jumbos entered the human boundary in search of food from a nearby forest reserve.
One day prior to this episode, an incident took place in Amsoi Shiva Kunda, where a man from Raha in Nagaon district got critically injured and lost his life. He was among the group picnickers in the famous picnic spot. However, his mates managed to escape the jumbo attack. The episode occured on 25th of December.
The deceased has been identified as Nipul Bordoloi. Two many deaths has been reported due to the rising conflict between human and elephants. Along with the reported cases of deaths of people, several cases of jumbo deaths has also been registered in the state.
Most of the incidents took place as a result of electrocution. It is suspected by the concerned department that, while the jumbos enter human habitat, their body touches unmanaged electric wires and fencing that leads to electrocution.
It has come to notice that, villagers put up illegal fencing to prevent animal attacks in their paddy fields as well as homes. Just a week prior to this attack incident, a woman identified as Reena Das of Golaghat district was killed after she got attacked by a jumbo.
The villager immediately rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead by the medical authorities. As per the official report, the deceased went to a paddy field for some work when the episode took place.
