BAKSA: As part of a significant crackdown on wildlife crime, the Manas Forest Department detained two poachers in Baksa's Boro Bazar for trying to sell tiger teeth illegally. The operation conducted near Manas National Park resulted in the seizure of two cell phones, a scooter and four tiger teeth.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Firoz Narzary (40) from Kumguri and Minister Basumatary (26) from Bongaon. Officials claim that they were apprehended red-handed while attempting to sell the tiger teeth at a tea shop in Boro Bazar. Forest officials quickly executed the operation in response to intelligence inputs, preventing the illegal trade.
Authorities suspect the duo’s involvement in a larger wildlife trafficking network. Further investigation is underway to track down other individuals linked to the poaching activities. Currently, the two accused are in the custody of the Manas Forest Department, and legal proceedings are being initiated against them.
The Manas Forest Department has intensified its efforts to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade in the region, urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to wildlife crime.
Meanwhile, the Khatangpani forest department, under the leadership of forest officer Shravan Saikia, apprehended a notorious poacher in Kariyajan, Bordumsa. Two elephant teeth—which had been buried beneath the ground—were recovered during the operation.
