Assam: Udalguri DC Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia tests Covid-19 positive

Guwahati: Reports have confirmed that Udalguri Deputy Commissioner, Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia, has tested Covid-19 positive on Thursday.

This development assumes extra significance as the Udalguri DC has become the first administrative officer in the state to be infected with the dreaded disease.

According to reports, Gharphalia interacted with 5 National Health Mission (NHM) workers who later tested positive for the contagion. Following the DC's exposure to the Covid-19 positive patients, Gharphalia was put under self-quarantine.

This development has been reported a day after Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia was transferred and posted as Secretary, State Election Commission, by an order of the Governor vide notification no. AAL8/2020/9-A. In the same order issued by the Additional Secretary to the Government of Assam, Personnel (A) Department, TP Borgohain vide notification, AAL8/2020/9-C on Tuesday, Purabi Konwar, CEO of Zila Parishad, Dhubri and PD, DRDA, Dhubri has been transferred and posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri.

Meanwhile, with 88 more cases reported in the morning today, Assam's Covid-19 tally has risen to 6,370, out of which 2,400 of the cases are 'active'. As many as 9 deaths have been reported in the state due to Covid-19-related complications.
